About Jason P.

I have over six years of experience advocating for students in a K-12 setting, with a focus on poverty, college, and academic achievement. Currently, I am the School Counselor for an Alternative High School serving around 150 students each year. In my current position, I have presented to many groups on educational topics, partnered with military recruiters and Kansas City Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), and begun teaching a skills class co-built with our Social Worker. I go above and beyond my job duties by assisting other staff and students with technological issues and I am considered "The IT Guy" by my close co-workers. In total, I have worked in four schools: one elementary school, one middle school, and two alternative high schools. In both current and previous positions, I have supported the schools by seeking community donations, designing/implementing processes, and creating digital content. Outside of work, I am a tinkerer. I love figuring out how something works. Whenever possible, I attempt my own repairs on everything from our clothes dryer, to the vehicles. I have recently taken a part-time job at O'Reilly Auto Parts and quickly rose to a management position where I am usually in charge of closing the store and ensuring it cleaned up and ready for the next day.
