About Jason Penix

I am currently in my last semester at Sinclair Community College.I am pursuing an associates degree in Visual Communications (May 2016) and a certificate in Arts Management (Aug 2016). As part of the Arts Management certificate, I am interning at the Victoria Theater Association, working directly with their marketing and publicity department. I have arrived to this career path by taking a winding road of experiences that has given me a seasoned view and awareness of how important the arts are to the community. I pursued a degree in theatre and acting my first bout of college. Learning more than performances, I’ve also directed and worked backstage. This has given me experience in the various types of work required for good production. Joining the U.S. Navy, and working abroad on the aircraft carrier USS George Washington enlightened my view even more. Working and living in a space of 20 stories tall, 3 football fields long with others gave a whole new perspective. I got a better sense of working in a community that I wasn’t use to with controls I wasn’t use to. The new worlds I experienced showed me how my thoughts and personality could fit into a culture and community that has existed long before I ever entered it. I gained a respect of seeing centuries old shrine nestled in the modern complex background of steal and glass structures that are more like works of art than skyscrapers. Through my experiences in the theatre and the Navy, mixed with my love of various disciplines in the arts, led me to develop an interest in graphic design. From the art I learned in school to sets in a play and finally the beautiful architecture and natural scenery in far off countries has led me to my design philosophy. I look at the work I create from an aspect of how I can take the challenges of the universe/world/community, in all its chaotic yet beautifully diverse possibilities, and compose a simple, structured understanding.
