About Jason Salo

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read a little about me. I am currently the Director of Campus Safety at Trent University. My team leads and manages Risk Management, Insurance, Emergency Management, Campus Security, Parking Services and Access Control. We also lead several student safety teams including Student Dispatchers, Trent University Emergency First Response Team and Walkhome. Before becoming the Director of Campus Safety in 2021, I was the Manager of Campus Security for Trent University (2014-21). Like all of us, I have made mistakes along the path to where I am now. These were opportunities to learn, identify my boundaries and hopefully lead my teams away from making similar errors. My ethics are strong. I believe in the Rule of Law and accountability, and honest communications. I believe in leading people and managing resources. My background is in the CAF as a Regular Force (FT) MP (2001-14) and before that as a CAF Primary Reservist (PT) with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment (1993-99). I am proud of my military careers. I was able to gain experiences in conducting investigations that ranged from national level security intelligence investigations as a Counter-Intelligence Investigator to mischief as a MP Patrolman. I have successfully planned major investigations, operations, and resource management systems. I have responded, managed, and supported emergencies of various seriousness in a variety of jurisdictions. As a Counter-Intelligence Investigator with the CF National Counter-Intelligence Unit, I deployed to Afghanistan and practiced my skills in a theatre of war. I gained further experience conducting high level security investigations, developed further HUMIT skills and a valuable understanding of operating with and supporting Canadian and International Commanders. I deployed around the globe as a CF Air Marshal, where I led teams of other highly trained and selected MP Air Marshals. I led missions for the now HRH King Charles the Governor General, PM and various NATO Heads of State and Military Leaders. These missions demanded professionalism, leadership, thorough planning and after mission reporting. The greatest skill sets I believe I have gained throughout my experiences and specialized training is leadership, understanding human behaviour and motivations, advanced interviewing, and investigation techniques. Through my career at Trent University I have further acquired the ability to conduct effective Forensic Experiential Trauma Interviews.
