About Jason Self

My intentions, after high school, were to be an engineer. I was nearly finished with an electrical engineering degree when the job market took a downturn. I then switched my major and received a degree in pre-medicine. I intended to go to medical school. However, the addition of a new son took me in a different direction. I wanted to be able to spend more time with my children. So, I enrolled in the environmental sciences program at ASU. Because of my engineering background, I was placed as a grad assistant in the engineering department and had an engineering pathway for my degree. My master's study required me to have many courses in both chemistry and agriculture. After completing my master's, I took yet another different direction by changing my emphasis and dissertation topic. My new emphasis was in physical geography. I studied chemical contaminant movement in soils of amenity based subdivisions. This diverse education has allowed me to teach many disciplines at the college level. I have been doing so for the last 16 years.
