About Jason Vickers

I wanted to be a teacher since I was a child. After high school though, the last thing I wanted to do was go to school for 4 more years. I wanted to enter the workforce. And at that time, the teaching market was saturated - it was very difficult to find a job. But I knew I had to obtain some sort of higher education, so I took another path, earning an Associate Degree in Business and Computer Applications in Pennsylvania, where I was born and raised. I then bounced around trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I worked as a service rig hand, in a restaurant, grocery store, pizza place, and I filled vending machines. I then started as an inbound 800 representative in customer service for a Verizon. I worked up the ranks there and eventually relocated to Huntsville, AL. Using the tuition assistance program, I earned a Bachelor Degree then my MBA. All the while moving through the ranks in Finance Operations and Marketing Operations to a Sr. Manager of Trade Show Operations where I led a team of professionals responsible for project management, implementation, and execution of multiple strategic trade shows. My desire to be a teacher never faded, and I taught classes annually at ExhibitorLIVE, a trade show for trade show professionals. In January of 2023, I became a substitute teacher for the Madison County School System and used vacation time to dip my toes in the educational waters. In June of 2023, I left Verizon to pursue becoming a full-time certified teacher. In August of 2023 I joined Sparkman Middle School as a 7th Grade Business Teacher. I teach Personal Finance, Soft Skills, and Career Exploration. In June of 2024 I became certified to drive a school bus and also drive for Sparkman Middle School. On a personal level, I am a husband to my wife, Lerissa, and a father to our children, Miles and Paige. I enjoy Star Trek, gaming, WWE, and I dabble in crypto. I am a member of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) and a 2nd Degree Black Belt under the study of Master Kim. We attend Good Shepherd United Methodist Church where I volunteer in youth ministry and in video, lighting, and soundboard operations.
