About Jassi Skogman

My passion for the sea can be seen both in my professional and my private life. After spending all my holidays on a sailing boat in my early years it became clear to me that studying Naval Architecture was an obvious choice. As a person I'm often described to be an engineer, meaning that I have a very concrete approach to problem solving and organizing of things and events; I like to get things done. My analytical character helps me to concentrate on the small details but it's also easy for me to imagine and see the big picture. I'm currently working as a purchaser at ABB Oy, Marine and Ports where my responsibility is the Vessel Information and Control Department. I'm taking care of the operative and strategic purchasing of Ship Automation and Remote Control Systems. The work is project oriented and I'm handling around 15-20 projects at a time. In my free time I skipper a Match Race sailing team of 5 women. I started competitive sailing three years ago and last year we reached our first goal of attending the Open Nationals. This year the goals are of course set higher and we are training hard to reach them. Being a skipper in such a strategic sport has taught me a lot of communication skills as well as leadership. I have to make fast decisions based on the information I get from my team members and keep my eyes on the opponent at the same time.
