About Javier Herrera

Javier Herrera is native Tucsonan with a passion for community. With more than 20 years of management, planning, and community engagement experience, Javier is highly accomplished in working with local leaders, community partners, and grassroots organizations to promote a common vision and develop innovative projects to better serve the local community. Prior to working with the Office of Equity, Javier served as a Public Information Officer for Tucson Water. His previous experience also includes managing public health emergencies as a Planning Chief as well as leading community engagement and public health policy initiatives as a Program Manager for the Pima County Health Department. Javier has also worked at nonprofits and the Arizona Governor’s Office addressing a varying array of community concerns and challenges. In addition to his professional career, Javier had the fortune of being elected as a State Director and District Director for the Arizona League of United Latin American Citizens (L.U.L.A.C.) and was appointed as a Commissioner to the City and County’s Metropolitan Education Commission. Javier holds a bachelor's in Political Science from the University of Arizona and a master's in Public Administration from the University of Phoenix.
