About Javier J Perez

Deputy Director General of Economics at the Bank of Spain, and member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Eurosystem. I am also Board member of ICEI (Instituto Complutense de Estudios Internacionales). I have held other managerial positions within the Bank ranging from monetary policy and international to Spanish economy and forecasting issues. Before joining Banco de España I worked at the European Central Bank, the Universidad Pablo de Olavide of Seville, the Research foundation centrA (Spanish regional public administration), and the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. I hold a Ph.D. in Economics (with distinction) from this latter University. I have also been member of the International Relations Committee of the Eurosystem, and the ESCB Working Group on Public Finance. My current analytical agenda focuses on assessing the impact of economic and financial fragmentation/integration on the environment in which monetary policy operates, with particular attention to geopolitical and geoeconomic drivers. I am also interested in analyzing the role of the public sector in this new geoeconomic context. This agenda is driven by a commitment to addressing real-world challenges.
