About Javier Louro

I'm a Cancer Epidemiologist with a strong foundation in mathematics and biostatistics, and my main interest in using data to drive meaningful improvements in public health. What I enjoy most is applying statistical models, particularly risk prediction, survival analysis, and all types of regression, to help better understand people's health and contribute to more informed decisions in the field of epidemiology. My research journey started at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM), where I completed my PhD working on individualized breast cancer risk modeling to inform personalized screening approaches. Right now, I'm a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), Karolinska Institutet, where I lead a project exploring socioeconomic inequalities in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer. In addition, I have worked as a statistician in various other fields of research, such as pharmacology, geriatrics, gastroenterology, and radiology. So far, I've authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 16) and regularly serve as a reviewer for top journals, including The BMJ. I also really enjoy teaching and mentoring, I have more than 400 hours of teaching at institutions like Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Institut Bonanova, and Karolinska Institutet (KI), where I currently teach at both Master's and PhD levels.
