Background

About Javon Bracy

Javon Elisea Bracy was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She holds a Master of Divinity from the Iliff School of Theology (Denver, CO) and a B.A. in English from Xavier University of Louisiana (New Orleans, LA). She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX. Previously, she worked with young people at Joseph S. Clark High School via City Year NOLA, Grow Dat Youth Farm, and in various capacities at her alma mater, Xavier University. She has also done trailblazing virtual work through the Tech Chaplaincy Institute, the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), and the Congregational Connections Program at the Iliff School of Theology (supported by the Lily Foundation). Presently, Javon (virtually) serves on the ministerial staff at two Denver-based churches. She administrates ministry group support, digital media, outreach, and communications at New Hope Baptist Church. She also co-leads the Spiritual Well, the Gathering, and Reframe ministry teams at Juniper Formation (a UCC congregation). Javon is also the Program Assistant for the Racial Healing Initiative at Seminary of the Southwest (supported by the Moody Foundation). In this role, she has conducted research regarding racial healing and trauma relevant to clergy and mental health professionals with a specific focus on Greater Austin. She also helped to develop curriculum content delivered during virtual (synchronous and asynchronous), in-person, and hybrid training experiences. Currently, the RHI is completing work with its initial cohort of participants and is moving into the evaluation phase. Javon has always strived to support the growth and well-being of people and communities. She has been an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since her initiation (Gamma Alpha Chapter) in 2011. She is currently a member of the New Orleans Alumnae Chapter. Javon has rendered service to the community through various organizations, including serving on various boards of several nonprofits, alumni associations, and a charter school. Since being diagnosed with lupus in 2016, she has been a supporter of lupus organizations. In 2020, she founded her own awareness and advocacy organization, The Purpletuity Project. Javon’s motto is “To edify, to glorify, to do all things in love.” She hopes to continue to work in and create spaces that combine her heart for ministry and service, as well as her passion for (among other things) mentoring, Black culture, community development, technology, and holistic wellness.
