About Jay Alton

Jay Alton is a passionate Success Coach at Student Veterans of America (SVA), where they specialize in helping veterans successfully transition into the civilian workforce. With a unique background that includes a year of service as a Military Police Officer and a strong foundation in human resources and data analytics, Jay is deeply committed to supporting peers in navigating their personal and professional growth. Inspired by Steven Covey’s principle, “I am not a product of my circumstances, I am a product of my decisions,” Jay has created their own Reframing Mindset—a philosophy that encourages intentional, empowering decision-making. Having faced a traumatic youth and a challenging past, Jay approaches coaching with a focus on resilience, empowerment, and the belief that growth stems from the choices we make. By helping veterans ask themselves, “What have your decisions made you?” Jay encourages them to take control of their futures and move forward with purpose. In May 2024, Jay earned a Certificate in Supporting Veteran Success in Higher Education from Columbia University, which enhanced their ability to advocate for and guide veterans through the intricacies of higher education and career transitions. That same month, Jay also graduated with a B.S. in Business Data Analytics from Fairmont State University, where they were named the ACBSP Student Leadership Awardee for the 2023-2024 school year. During this time, Jay served as the President of the Fairmont State University Student Veterans Organization, leading initiatives that directly supported fellow student veterans. Jay’s coaching philosophy integrates their personal military experience with a deep understanding of human resources and data analytics. They emphasize continuous growth and the development of practical, actionable strategies for overcoming obstacles. Their ultimate, long term goal is to pursue at least one advanced degree in Education for Counseling, with a focus on expanding their knowledge of counseling frameworks, strategies, and research—aiming to offer even more comprehensive support to the individuals they coach. As a Success Coach, Jay is driven by the belief that with the right mindset, tools, and support, anyone can rewrite their story and reach their full potential.
