About Jay Barton

My interest and research is mainly focused on the study of advanced electromagnetic and multi-physics phenomena. This research is specialized in radar cross section (RCS) measurements and simulation. This research also includes novel antenna design, and RCS simulation and measurements in abnormal and hostile environments, i.e. plasma environments, heavy shock and vibration environments, and radiation environments. I also have an extensive background and experience in high-power microwave /electromagnetic pulse (HPM/EMP) physics, electromagnetic metamaterials, pulsed power physics and electromagnetic susceptibility (EMC/EMI) of devices and components. I have been credited with designing and testing the world's highest power FSS, operating near 2 GW/m^2. I am also credited with designing and testing the first known 3D printed all-dielectric FSS and testing it at high power.
