About Jay Buensuceso

Jay is currently a student at the University of California San Diego pursuing a degree in Cognitive Science, focusing on Machine Learning & Neural Computation with a minor in Computer Science. Within UCSD, he is a senior member in Rocket Propulsion Laboratory holding two leadership positions within the club and is responsible for the organization's internal affairs and leading the structures subteam of Phoenix, a liquid bi-propellant rocket. Jay also works at UC San Diego's Qualcomm Institute Makerspace, helping students and faculty design and fabricate novel and interesting new projects. Jay is also a senior volunteer for FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization that hosts robotics competitions for k-12 students. Within the organization, he is the lead FIRST Technical Advisor for the San Diego Region and is a member of the region committee. Through this, he has also had the opportunity to be an on-field technical advisor during the 2023 FIRST World Championship in Houston, TX. Outside of school and volunteering, Jay is an avid sim racer and as such, uses the skills he has learned though his academic journey to engineer and design bespoke steering wheels for clients using the Fanatec and Moza wheelbases.
