Background

About Jay Ellul

I can be a part of helping your organisation to uplift their culture and retain and attract the best employees. To be part of a team that steers an organisation to get the best from their employees and develops them to their potential. All the while, ensuring the workplace is safe for everyone's physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing. I seek to empower individuals to stand up for what is right and make their workplaces better and safer. A psychologically and psychosocially unsafe workplace is more stressful than swimming with sharks, because you can see when the shark is coming for you. These workplaces are forever feeding on staff that disagree with the pack - reducing victims' reputation, achievements, resilience and health until they either leave, or are forced into a corner and lash out, and then suffer the trauma of responding to complaints just to try to survive. Talent, time and resources are finite - no organisation can afford to waste them. Especially if only small changes are needed to give you and your staff the psychological safety they need to know their workplace has their best interest at heart. A bit about me. I have more than 18 years in leadership and management roles. I have been fortunate enough to be part of some excellent teams. In these teams, we developed strategic and operational plans. We had memorable, critical and robust disagreements. Our disagreements formed part of the dynamism that made our team excel. Respectful disagreement was built into our planning process - deliberately - to make our plans better. After our planning sessions - we laughed and joked and became a better, more trustworthy team. Trust and respect was guaranteed. We all knew our roles and what was expected of us. I have also been part of some divisive and dysfunctional teams. Leaderless teams. Teams that have a token manager or director that does not know how to bring a team together and prevents them from coming together. Most of these teams have had people in charge that display some of (if not all) the dark tetrad of personality disorders. These are narcissism, sadism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy. It is my experience, these teams will never perform to their potential with such a person in charge. It is with my experiences working in these organisations that inspired my need to learn how to keep myself psychologically safe. To reduce the anxiety and harm these people create, and to minimise the overall anxiety and harm these people cause.#psychosocial,#psychologicalsafety,#psychosocialhazards,#psychosocialsupport
