About Jay Gerlach

I am a proud undergraduate alumnus of West Virginia University (B.S, 2001). I earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (2003) and Ph.D. in public administration from North Carolina State University (2009). I held a faculty position in the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University from 2009 through 2012. I also served on faculty in the Political Science and Public Affairs Department at Western Carolina University from January 2013 through May 2020. I served as WCU MPA Director from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2019. I am currently a Residential Real Estate Broker as part of The Katie & Jay Team at Allen Tate Beverly-Hanks & Associates in Biltmore Park. I was born and raised in Point Pleasant, WV. My wonderful wife, Amanda, and I lived in St. Louis, MO; Raleigh, NC; Lubbock, TX; and now Asheville, NC. We have two beautiful daughters, Maya (born in Raleigh) and Brooklyn (our little Texan). I enjoy about anything outdoors (hiking, camping, fishing), and I love to travel. I am a fan of West Virginia University athletics, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the New York Giants.
