I am the Deputy Director and General Counsel for the Kansas Association of Counties. I oversee the legislative and lobbying efforts for the Kansas Association of Counties. I handle legal matters of interest to county governments. I also speak multiple topics, including governance, leadership, open government, emotional intelligence and other soft skills. Prior to that, I worked for a bank doing international contract law. I also conducted fraud investigations and was the head of the compliance team, which spearheaded efforts to prevent money laundering. I supervised a team of anywhere from 3-6 individuals. I also have experience with legislative research and casino regulation. This experience has allowed me to work in regulated industries both as a regulator (for casinos) and as a regulated entity (in banking). I have also worked in both sides of the policy making arena, as a nonpartisan legislative research staffer (for the legislature) and in my current position as a lobbyist. In my spare time, I teach advocacy to law students.
