About Jay Han

I am a PhD student and educational professional with 10+ years of experience in instructional design, workshop facilitation, communication, emotional intelligence, and leadership training facilitation, program development and evaluation, team-based interventions, and career & leadership coaching. My passion lies in facilitating generative dialogues in workplace communities to promote transformative and critical pedagogy, reflexive dialogical learning, and increased self-awareness, leading to eventual system-level change. As a scholar and researcher, my research area explores how novice organizational leaders navigate the presence of a situated curriculum towards their full participation and perceived legitimacy within the existing communities that they are part of, and the embodied, dialogic, and reflexive learning that takes place through interactions and relations that form. Ultimately, my research interest lies in understanding how people come to understand and embody the accepted and normalized social behaviours as they enter various communities of practice, while uncovering power differentials and system-level contradictions that influence social and cultural reproductions in various communities. Through exploring the dynamics and interactions that take place in workplace communities as social microcosms, can we understand the broader movements of social change Beyond my scholarly research pursuits, I am a perpetual seeker of knowledge, be it in relevance to building my professional skillset as an educator or a change agent, uncovering the relationship between societal change and organizational change, or ideas on how people as individuals learn, unlearn, and change.
