About Jay Herbert

My objective is to obtain a challenging position with your company that will utilize my skills and experience while providing advancement opportunities. Throughout my career I have been known as a quick learner, self-starter, and a dedicated worker. I have demonstrated my ability to handle a variety of tasks effectively and deliver on deadlines. My current role as a Crisis Intervention Paraprofessional has expanded my skill set to learning classroom management and how to effectively work with children who exhibit verbal and physical outbursts with emotional and learning disabilities. I have experience in primary level school, starting in first grade, moving to second grade and most currently working with a third grade class. Additionally my expertise includes managing two residential group homes in the community, housing individuals with mild to severe developmental, intellectual, and psychological disabilities. I effectively challenged and empowered a team of more than thirty frontline staff, teaching them the skills required to do their best work possible with this growing population of unique individuals. I worked with the Human Resources Department training employees in Scip-R, a curriculum directed by OPWDD Regulations. This teaches staff how to effectively handle challenging behaviors and specific techniques approved to protect yourself under extreme circumstances. I am comfortable with real time problem solving, handling emergent issues that may arise. I am very familiar with working under pressure and managing challenging situations in a professional and timely manner. I flourish in a team environment but also thrive working individually. In addition to my most recent roles in the human services industry, I have also previously worked in a retail and restaurant setting and I am comfortable interacting with clients and customers on a daily basis.
