About Jay Inman

My professional journey is providing me with experience and rewards in and out of the classroom. Throughout my journey, my enthusiasm and passion for teaching Physics has remained at its peak. One thing I have learned is that while Physics concepts remain relatively unchanged, my students and the ways they learn are different and constantly changing. Physics is not magic. The physical realm can be controlled, understood and mastered. My passion is facilitating the mastery of the concepts of physics and the ability to solve physics related problems, both practical and mathematical. I am successful when my students can relate their knowledge of physics to their potential interests, be it engineering, medicine, the environment, fine arts, literature, political science or just being a good citizen. No single educational approach is right for all students. I use a combination of demonstrations, discussions, Socratic dialogue, lecture, collaboration, practical experimentation and student-led instruction. By mixing up my teaching methods, I demystify physics and make it accessible to all my students. My teaching style has been influenced by Carl Sagan, Bennett Brabson, and Bill Nye whose mixture of knowledge, passion and experience punctuated their teaching. However, the biggest influence on my teaching has been master showman Bruce Springsteen, whose music concerts offer inspiration, motivation, enthusiasm, energy and hope. My teaching should bring those intangible ideals to the classroom. My journey continues.
