About Jay Miller

Jay Miller is a specialist in planning, development and leasing of urban and suburban retail centers. After 20 years focused on development of large mixed use projects, Jay created J Square Developers to find infill sites and develop retail stores for a select group of national retailers in West Central Florida. In 2015, J Square completed development of a s.f. retail center on an infill site in St.Petersburg featuring the city's first Trader Joe's store. Currently under development is Quattro Beach Drive, a collection of four luxury city homes offered for $1.0 million each. Mr. Miller has directed development and management of lifestyle and specialty retail projects ranging in size from $2.0 million to $75 million. Projects include expansion/renovations to CocoWalk and the Mayfair Shops in Miami, Centro Ybor in Tampa and the Greene Town Center in Dayton, OH. His expertise encompasses master planning, complex entitlements, negotiation of public private partnerships, anchor tenant lease negotiations, and management of project budgets. Mr. Miller has negotiated well over 100 retail lease transactions with tenants including Urban Outfitters, JC Penney, Target, Kohl’s, Saks Off Fifth, Bed Bath and Beyond, AMC and Muvico Theatres, The Cheesecake Factory, Gap and the Limited. Prior to establishing J Square, Mr. Miller was Sr. VP of Retail Development in Florida for Ohio-based Equity Inc, where he advised Nationwide Realty Investors on the planning and development of a proposed 140 acre mixed use project in the suburbs of Tampa, FL. He served for 11 years as Regional VP of Development and Asset Management for Steiner and Associates, one of the nation’s leading developers of suburban and urban town centers based on the principles of new urbanism. Mr. Millers’ career in mixed use development began in Miami, when he joined Constructa US, the French company that developed the pioneering CocoWalk project in Coconut Grove.
