About Jay Rice

I joined Gallagher Sharp in March of 1980 and became an equity partner in October, 1987. During my thirty-five years in the practice of law, I have been primarily involved in the defense of insurance companies and their insureds in a wide variety of civil litigation. My practice has focused on insurance coverage disputes, appellate advocacy, personal injury litigation, and professional liability defense. I have been involved in appellate practice since I joined the firm in 1980. I have extensive experience in both the Ohio and Federal Courts of Appeal. I have briefed and argued numerous appeals involving a variety of legal issues. I have had twelve cases before the Ohio Supreme Court and the honor of participating in oral argument in seven of them. As a member of the firm=s insurance practice group, I have extensive experience in various insurance coverage matters including the prosecution of declaratory judgment actions. I have also defended insurance companies in cases involving coverage disputes and allegations of bad faith. My professional liability practice has usually consisted of representing lawyers, but I have also represented physicians, podiatrists, accountants, real estate agents and brokers, and various other professionals. I have tried as either lead counsel or second chair 11 cases involving, inter alia, claims for bad faith, negligence, personal injury, defamation, wrongful discharge, breach of contract and commercial disputes.
