I believe great Architecture is about the creation of great spaces. I am a seasoned Architect with over 25 years experience working with diverse clients on challenging and unique projects spanning a wide range of project types, scales and complexities, including: industrial facilities, data centers, corporate workspaces, multi-family housing, galleries, high end custom homes and conversions of existing buildings. I have extensive experience with all phases of project design, development and execution, and excel in leading projects from initial interaction with the client to conceptualizing, developing and detailing the design, entitlements/permitting and facilitating construction. I am adept at visualizing and considering multiple project details simultaneously and have worked as an individual contributor, project leader and team collaborator while embracing an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to design. I am passionate about great design and committed to making exceptional buildings that are thoughtfully conceived, carefully developed and well executed. I believe that every project can be special and great design is possible regardless of budget or contextual constraints. My design work has received awards from the American Institute of Architects California Council, American Institute of Architects San Francisco chapter, Concrete Masonry Association, Wood Institute, Sunset Magazine, Loudoun County Design Cabinet, and has been published in the Loudoun Business Journal, Sunset Magazine, Metropolitan Home, Sacramento Bee, San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post, New York Times Magazine among others. After almost 2 decades in San Francisco, I have returned home to Sacramento, built a modern urban infill home where I’m raising my two sons with my wife and partner Melissa Szpik Serrao.
