About Jay Shores

I have been an educator since 1965. Throughout my career I have elected to apply my skills to advance the institutions with which I have been associated by furthering the development of my peers. I am a generalist with extensive training in educational systems management, research design, and educational measurement as well as training and substantial experience in curriculum development and assessment. For the majority of my career I have been employed by health science centers. Educators at health science centers are striving for the qualitative improvement of the academic programs and supporting academic development of that community of scholars within the health science. We work with administrators to develop and implement programs and program changes. We teach in programs and advise faculty members and students in our area of expertise. Like clinicians, we set aside some time for research and scholarship. We are either specialists or generalists. The former develop a cohesive body of scholarship, the work of the latter commonly follows more than one area of scholarly interest. While I primarily help the institution develop and refine academic programs, I spend what time I can in scholarly activity. Being a generalist, I have more than one area of academic interest. My academic interests have focused on five areas: 1) The efficacy of osteopathic medicine 2) The nature of physician reasoning 3) The role of the physician in prevention and early detection of cancer 4) Application of measurement and statistical tools in Medical education and research 5) Applications of systems theory in education
