Insight Into Jay Weatherly My professional passions are centered upon the essential role and sustainability of community hospitals, the connection between hospitals and physicians, and representing young physicians in the placement process. Hospital sustainability is predicated upon strong financial performance, favorable clinical outcomes, prioritization of patient safety, an underlying commitment to excellence - but first and foremost a commitment to a healthy culture. My conviction is that this is only accomplished by effective leadership through assimilating, developing, and valuing a great leadership team. That leadership team must demonstrate a deep appreciation for and commitment to patients and the patient care team - the physician, nurses, and other associates who by and large are in the medical field for all the right reasons. As physicians are increasingly employed by hospitals there has been a commensurate shift in the physician-hospital relationship. Physicians are increasingly viewed by Hospital Executives as a commodity. Conversely, those Hospital Executives who view and respect physicians on their Medical Staff as the clinical pacesetters for their organization are likely creating a pwerful and healthy culture. Regarding physician placement, we have pioneered a unique service wherein physicians are exclusively represented. Heretofore, physicians have not been formally represented, and the time is right for this agency concept. It will be a privilege to steer physicians towards healthy hospital and group cultures!
