About Jayant Thirani

Born in Darjeeling, my schooling took place at St. Joseph’s School & College, North Point, Darjeeling. After completing my ICSE in 1975, I graduated in Commerce from North Bengal University in 1980. Thereafter, I joined M/s Singhi & Co, Chartered Accountants, Kolkata and was articled as a clerk under them from 1981 to 1984. During this period I passed the intermediate examination of ICAI in 1982 and the final examination held in November 1984 and May 1985. Post-qualification, I shifted to Siliguri (West Bengal) in 1985 and joined M/s P. K. Shah & Co, a chartered accountancy firm, as a partner in September 1985. In this firm I was heading the audit function and preparing project reports for financing proposals. I was associated with this firm till March 1993 when I shifted to Gwalior. In Gwalior, I was associated with Midland Plastics Limited, a listed company in which my family had substantial interest. In 2001, I joined Daga Arun & Co. as a partner. In 2008, I became actively associated in leasing, marketing and management of Dindayal City Mall, a multiplex cum shopping mall and I am still associated with this project. In March 2015, I joined Tropilite Foods Private Limited as Head - Finance. The company is predominantly engaged in manufacture of ingredients, emulsifiers and stabilizers for the food industry. The company manufactures the entire range of ingredients for the bakery cake industry and has also forayed into starter cultures for curd and yoghurt. In the 30 years that I have been practicing as a chartered accountant, my major area of expertise has been management consultancy and I have gained wide experience in accounting, auditing, financing, taxation and budgeting. I am fluent in Hindi & English and can also speak Bengali and Nepali. I have good communication skills and a strong command over written English. I am very computer literate and also hold a Diploma in Information Systems Audit from ICAI.
