About Jayanta Tarafdar
I joined the university as Assistant Professor in 1991 on a large R&D program and serving more than 33 years. My research focuses on plant virology, plant-pathogen interactions and plant molecular biology and genomics as evidenced by the research publications in journals of National and International repute and brought the Award of best performing ICAR centre of tuber crops research to BCKV. I run the plant virology graduate and PhD program and involved in various mentioning initiatives for researchers. We strive to train the next generation of the researchers in a rigorous but supportive research environment. As a consequence, I am supervising as Principal Investigator of several Govt. of India funded research projects from Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, University Grant Commission (UGC), Govt. of India, Ministry of Agriculture, RKVY and several Agrochemicals Companies (Syngenta India Ltd, FMC India Ltd, BASF India Ltd, Bayer India.Ltd, Cheminova India Ltd, ADAMA India Pvt. Ltd, Isagro (Asia) India Ltd, Indofil Industries Ltd, United Phosphorus Ltd.(UPL), Rallis India Ltd, Crystal Phosphate India Ltd, Excel India Ltd, Nagarjun Agrichem Ltd, GSP India Ltd, Parijat Agrochemical Pvt. Ltd. India, Mahidra Summit Agriscience Ltd. India. Corteva Agriscience etc.) funded projects and Principal Investigator of the Indo- UK collaborative project funded by DBT, India-BBSRC, UK under CGAT program. I have established advanced plant pathogens, virus diagnostic centre in the university to provide the service for reliable and rapid pathogen diagnosis of the planting materials/seed to facilitate the farmers and entrepreneurs.
