About Jayme Walters

& hl=en *Views expressed on my profile are my own.* I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at Utah State University and serve as the Executive Director of the Transforming Communities Institute (TCI). As a first-generation college graduate from rural Illinois, my work is rooted in a deep personal commitment to the well-being of communities through collaborative, data-informed approaches. I hold a PhD in Social Work from the University of Tennessee, an MSW from the University of Georgia, and a BSW from Southern Illinois University. Since joining USU, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside faculty, staff, students, and community partners across Utah on community-engaged research and solution-building initiatives. My scholarship is adaptive: As an engaged social scientist, I strive to meet the priorities and needs of the community partners who seek to improve the quality of life and well-being for our fellow Utahns. Over the past few years, I’m most proud of 1) co-founding the WAB Warming Center in 2022, which is a nonprofit that provides shelter and supplies to people experiencing homelessness in the Logan area; and 2) co-developing USU’s Community Justice Advocate (CJA) program, an innovative initiative authorized by the Utah Supreme Court that certifies human service professionals to provide limited legal services.
