Background
About Jayne B.
Jayne Belliveau - Founder President and CEO of Beautiful Calf Productions - During her undergraduate degree at Dalhousie University, Jayne was approached by two separate professors who noticed her gift for putting contrasting ideas together. Upon graduation, Jayne travelled to Germany and began working in finance at German media fund, VIF, where the team managed a $100 million yearly budget. While serving as Executive Assistant to the CEO, she championed a script that later went on to sell out globally (“Love the Hard Way” starring Adrien Brody screened at the Sundance, Berlin and Locarno film festivals. It was also nominated for the top German producing award). She eventually managed the production on location in New York and Berlin. Jayne received her Master of Fine Arts at UCLA, where she studied screenwriting, directing, and animation. She was mentored by Oscar-nominated writer, Meg LeFauve (“Inside Out”), Jody Foster’s head of production before embarking on a screenwriting career. One of Jayne's screenplays, “The Briefcase”, received seven-digit offers and interest from a major US studio. She wrote a screenplay that was a finalist at the Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab. Instead of taking the easy path of accepting a job from a top CEO in LA, she chose the more genuine, but longer path. Jayne returned home to New Brunswick because she wanted to tell authentic stories through the lens of her Atlantic Canadian culture. While working as a consultant for Netflix, she suggested that they consider introducing independent films to rural communities — films that typically wouldn’t have unique content access. Childhood experiences and lack of access to interesting edgy content is often sadly overlooked. Netflix’s independent division is one of their most lucrative departments. Jayne put Netflix in touch with the Canadian Media Fund to kickstart the conversation to invest in Canadian content. Her passion for outreach helped Netflix develop a strategy for introducing independent content to rural Canadian communities. Jayne also worked to unearth a global underground online community, where she has written for Denny's restaurants, Better Mobile (clients include Coca-Cola and Microsoft), and various other global small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs). This is a network she leverages today, providing a massive competitive advantage for SMEs looking to go global during the pandemic and with an eye to our post-COVID world.
