Jayson King, Unreal Engine Technical Director at Number 8 Jayson King is a seasoned VFX artist and technical director with over 20 years of experience across high-end commercial, film, and broadcast post-production. He currently serves as Unreal Engine Technical Director at Number 8, one of London’s premier video and sound post-production houses, where he is spearheading the studio’s growing capabilities in real-time content creation. Jayson’s career has consistently blended creative ambition with technical expertise. His work spans everything from complex cloth simulations and volumetric effects to real-time cinematic pipelines built in Unreal Engine. Whether he's collaborating with directors, supervising a team, or refining a procedural toolset in Houdini, Jayson brings a solutions-focused mindset and a calm, leadership-driven presence to every project. Before joining Number 8, Jayson spent more than five years as a Senior Lecturer in VFX & CGI at the University of Derby. There, he taught production-proven workflows in Houdini, Maya, and Unreal, while mentoring students to meet the demands of a competitive and fast-evolving industry. His background as both a creative and educator gives him a unique ability to communicate clearly across teams, translate complex tools into accessible workflows, and nurture emerging talent. Jayson’s appointment marks a strategic step for Number 8 as the studio continues to expand its real-time and virtual production offering.
