About Jayson Martinez

Mr. Martinez has been a research engineer in the Energy & Environment Directorate at PNNL since December 2009. During his time at PNNL he has been involved in a diverse range of projects from funding sources including the Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. State Department, and Public Utility Districts. He has contributed to the research and design of different systems that address engineering and ecological concerns related to hydro, wind, marine, and hydrokinetic energy systems. These systems include a diverse range of acoustic and radio frequency transmitters and receiving systems for detecting and localizing fish, vocalizing marine mammals, birds, and bats. He was also a key contributor to the development of the second generation of the Sensor Fish and the Sensor Fish Mini, which are small autonomous sensor packages that can be used to collect quantitative information about the hydraulic environment that fish may be exposed to. In addition to research and design, Mr. Martinez has been involved extensively with the field deployment of these technologies as well as the data reduction and analysis of the data gathered in the field. He is the Technical Manager of the PNNL Bio-Acoustics & Flow Laboratory (BFL) which is accredited by The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). He has coauthored 36 published journal publications and 40 technical reports.
