About Jeanine Verloop

Jeanine Verloop (1994) creates kinetic sculptures and multimedia work in which she combines her love for craft with a fascination for technology. During her Illustration studies (2018) at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, she was already interested in the technology of early printers and typewriters. Verloop delved into their mechanisms and biological principles of movement and made this the starting point for a number of kinetic installations that produce abstract prints on paper. Gradually, the machines themselves became more important than the prints they produce. During exhibitions, Verloop experienced the vulnerability of her machines. To emphasize and exaggerate this vulnerability, Verloop started practicing Scientific Glassblowing independently in 2020. Currently she is creating fragile machines from glass that destroy themselves during exhibitions. In 2020, she received the grant for emerging artists from the Mondriaan Fund and a start-up grant from the Creative Industries Fund NL for her research into Scientific Glassblowing. Verloop has shown her work internationally with V2_Lab For the Unstable Media at ARS Electronica (2022) and during her residencies at Hangar_org in Barcelona (2019) and CYENS - Center of Excellence in Nicosia (CY)(2022).
