About Jeanne Murphy

With summa cum laude undergraduate and masters degrees in experimental psychology and additional undergraduate majors in English literature and computer science, I founded Open Door Child Care,(opendoorcare.com) a 501c3 organization to provide before and after school care in Maryland in 1983. Currently 2300 children are enrolled at 34 locations, and Open Door has been designated an Exemplary Program by the Congressional Women's Caucus. Staff education ensures that caregivers are cognizant of children's needs and stages, encouraging social, emotional, academic and physical development. Open Door is accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education to train child care providers, meeting the licensing agency's staff educational requirements. Advocating for children's health and safety, speaking to legislatures, at school administrator meetings, and educating the general public about children's needs are part of Open Door's mission. opendoorcare.com. Camelot Learning is a mathematics activity based curriculum that makes practicing math fun, and is part of Open Door's "Count Me In Club." camelotlearning.com. Camelot Learning was founded in 1997 to address the need for school age children to succeed on standardized tests, in an effort to make learning fun and engaging. Camelot's curriculum is aligned with the Common Core Standards for Mathematics, and in addition to being used in Open Door, it is used in 48 states by school systems.
