About Jed Varney

The best veterinary clinicians are observant, have a passion for their field, and can solve problems effectively. Many disease conditions are related directly to cultural problems, therefore it is important to have a strong knowledge of husbandry of the species on which they practice. In 30 years of experience in fish culture and food animal medicine with over 16 different fish species I understand the nuances of rearing conditions to reduce disease and prevent problems before they occur. This saves money, reduces use of therapeutics, and since state and private hatcheries are producing a food animal product, is safer for the environment and end users. As a veterinarian I understand fish physiology and how it relates to disease. This knowledge of medicine along with skilled researching ability produces innovative solutions to medical problems causing mortality and morbidity in fish populations. I have training and experience in diagnostics, problem solving, clinical pathology, interpretation of test results, and veterinary histology. With this combination of skills a solution can be found to most aquatic animal health problems.
