About Jeff Black

I have worked in the retail industry since 1992 as a department manager, sales associate, product purchaser, trainer, inventory controller, equipment operator and warehouse worker. I enjoy the interaction and challenges of working with fellow associates and customers. It is of great satisfaction to be able to help others, such as getting associates trained, and assisting customers with their questions and project inquiries. I feel a particular sense of accomplishment when a negative encounter with a customer or associate turns into a positive outcome. I firmly believe in the use of positive reinforcement as a primary tool to inspire and motivate others to complete tasks and projects, and to allow them to achieve their goals. While people have to be held accountable for poor performance, I firmly believe negative, threat based managing, such as the threat of a writeup, or the use of demeaning and patronizing language, will not garner the respect needed for good managing. A very big influence in my life has been music. I believe music has a very beneficial and positive impact on people, no matter the genre. Music has the potential to bring people together on a very profound, even spiritual, level. I have taken my connection with music into new territory by learning how to play the mandolin. It has been therapeutic, positive and challenging( in a very good way!) pursuit. I will continue to learn, and look forward to playing more with others, and to play in front of others! I would like to meld my work experiences and knowledge with my on-going love of music. This could be achieved thru a multitude of avenue's, from simple volunteer work, up to a whole career change! I am looking for ideas, suggestions and opportunities. I appreciate any and all input.
