About Jeff Botbyl

Retired Sheriff’s Lieutenant | Expertise in Leadership, Operation, Training, and Staff Development For 26 years, I had the opportunity to serve and protect the citizens of Passaic County. In 1996, I joined the motorcycle unit. I progressed from Sergeant to Lieutenant to Unit Commander for the division, which coordinates special details around the county, including parades, advance planning for dignitary visits, and patrols. Top contributions include implementing training standards and expanding capabilities from just 2 motorcycles and 2 officers to 12 motorcycles and 10 officers. Tapped for special assignment because of leadership and operational aptitude, I was concurrently designated the Director of Fleet Services and Motor Pool for 13 months. In this endeavor, I raised morale on a team challenged by a lack of process or direction, turned around the department, and overhauled processes across functional areas. In 2011, I transferred to the Patrol Division, where I united our municipal Police Chiefs by creating a liaison function for the Sheriff’s Patrol Division. This new forum for communication achieved unprecedented collaboration and satisfaction levels between each of the 16 towns within our jurisdiction. In addition to career achievements, I’ve received 500+ letters of gratitude and official commendations including: Honorable Service for post-9/11 bravery, Unit Citation for the Motorcycle Unit, a Certificate of Meritorious Service, a Certificate of Recognition from the Paterson Diocese for dedication to the Blue Mass Committee, and recognition from the Passaic County Board of Freeholders for leadership and devotion to county citizens.
