I primarily work as a business attorney with companies which have generated enough legal work to need a dedicated attorney, but do not want to either hire a full time resource or incur the high degree of expense of using a full service law firm. The reason that I practice as I do instead of at a large law firm is simple: I want to provide the best possible service at the most reasonable cost, and I found firsthand that this is almost impossible to do at a large firm. Large law firms are set up to service large clients; and this creates numerous inefficiencies when dealing with small to medium size clients. Specifically, large firms require high billing rates and billable hour requirements, which usually translates into small to medium sized clients being charged much more than they could obtain comparable work for elsewhere. Additionally, large firms have numerous departments which often are required to be brought into many transactions even if they are not strictly necessary, which raises the cost of transactions substantially. Finally, large firms have huge overhead (often a result of overseas offices and exotic specialties), which causes the costs of smaller transactions to be inflated. I have structured my practice as to avoid unnecessary overhead and as a result can offer client focused service at much lower billing rates, on more flexible terms, without compromising client service. When necessary, I can make referrals to specialists in areas outside of the general business field in which I practice.
