Background
About Jeff Doubek
My teaching journey started before I taught in a classroom, but I started my public school teaching in kindergarten. Over the next eight years, I learned how to motivate a class through positivity, music, and movement. I could teach many math lessons through games and music. I played around 15 guitar songs to teach the students various math concepts. I worked with the district administration to create checklists for incoming kindergarteners and wrote an integrated literacy continuum that covered kindergarten through 2nd and 4th grade. Towards the end of the eight years, I helped the district evaluate math curriculums for the upcoming year. At this time, I also received a master’s degree in curriculum development and an endorsement in English as a Second Language. The curriculum degree helped me understand how to evaluate curriculums in the United States. In 2021, I moved from kindergarten to Marshall Gifted Academy to teach 4th grade. I teach all subjects except reading. During the reading block, my class switches with another 4th-grade teacher, and I teach a second math class. I am currently teaching Bridges in Mathematics, one of the leading math programs for elementary schools. Since our school implemented Bridges, our students have tested #1 in the state for both years. In 2023, I started a STEM in Education Master’s degree for my 2nd master’s. This course has helped me revamp my science lessons and Lego League team. I am now more focused on allowing students to help drive the instruction by enabling them to ask more profound questions and guiding them toward their wonders. I am currently working on three-dimensional assessments for my students. I just finished a food web assessment that covers Asian Carp in Illinois.
