About Jeff Eckermann

I am impressed by the capability of technology, computers in particular, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations and management. I am also aware that, in most businesses today, the actual value being derived from computer technology is well short of the potential on offer, even with existing hardware and software. Most of my work in recent years has been dedicated to closing that gap, especially in management reporting and "business intelligence". Starting from my position as an accountant working for a telecommunications company, I proactively developed my own IT skills in order to solve the business problems confronting me at the time. That process continued, setting a trajectory which took me through a series of situations in which I could develop and apply an ever greater range of skills: as an internal consultant proving reporting to the organisation as a whole; as an external consultant working for finance managers in local government entities, programming new controls and reports in ERP software; as an external consultant doing large scale data extraction, analysis and transformation of business data in support of new management reporting / business intelligence initiatives.
