Background
About Jeff Hester
Socrates famously said,"An unexamined life is not worth living." Just about everything that I do lives comfortably under that umbrella. As a coach I work with professionals, executives and others, helping them make the most of their lives and careers according to their own definition of what that means. Working as thought partner, speaker and sometimes consultant I help organizations in much the same way. The only constant in today's world is rapid change. We often thrive or falter on the quality of our assumptions about an ever changing world. Navigating those waters depends on asking questions that you might never have thought to ask yourself, and on seeing the world from outside of your own perspective. That's where I come in.These days I also write the column "For Your Consideration" for Astronomy Magazine, and am getting started on a book project looking at the broad sweep of the impact of science on humanity's understanding of itself. But perhaps more than anything, what I do is follow my interests. Life is an adventure, and since retiring from a career in Academia I am enjoying seeing where that adventure takes me. Don't hesitate to reach spent my 30 year career as a scientist with one foot on the frontiers of physics and astronomy, and the other in the nuts and bolts of making complex missions work. As a member of the science teams responsible for three of the Hubble Space Telescope's cameras, I lived through some of the most extraordinary successes and failures in the history of space exploration. I have authored hundreds of scientific papers, given countless presentations, taught and mentored numerous students and became a sought-after public speaker. My iconic Hubble image, the “Pillars of Creation,” was featured on a US postage stamp and was recently selected by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential photographs in history.
