About Jeff Hsi

Jeff is a Technical Advisor at EIC Activities, part of the CIMIC Group. Previously, he served as the Technical Director and General Manager for Ground Engineering at EIC. With over 40 years of experience in ground engineering, Jeff specialises in soft ground engineering, tunnels and underground structures, deep foundations, earthworks, and retaining walls. He supports the technical performance of a highly skilled geotechnical and tunnelling team at EIC and provides expert services to CIMIC’s major infrastructure projects. In his earlier roles, Jeff served as the Chief Technical Principal and General Manager for Geotechnics and Tunnels at SMEC, where he contributed to projects in more than 20 countries. He has authored and co-authored over 80 technical papers published in journals and conferences and served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney. In 2016, Jeff was invited by the Australian Geomechanics Society to deliver a Keynote Speech on Soft Soil Engineering in Practice at the AGS Symposium in Sydney. Jeff holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is also a Chartered Engineer in both Australia (CPEng) and the UK (CEng).
