Background
About Jeff Joslin
I'm an architect (emeritus), urban designer, planner, developer and seasoned manager/executive. Spanning forty years, my life's work has been driven by a desire to positively contribute to the improvement of the built and the natural environment. Areas of highest professional competency and achievement include: Urban Design, Aesthetic/Architectural Regulation, Historic Preservation, and Green Infrastructure. Though my professional public service work has largely been urban in nature, I've also had deep involvement in less-urban and rural environments. I farmed and lived for twenty years on rural land, participated in local planning and land-use processes, and led a successful effort to halt the expansion of industrial waste facility on Sauvie Island. Prior to 10 years in San Francisco and 15 years in Portland Oregon leading urban design and historic preservation efforts, I was a sustainability expert, consultant, and practicing architect. That work included: • Founding the award-winning Whole House Recycling Project, pioneering research in the salvage and re-use of construction materials. • Leading the Port of Portland to establish the largest wood salvage and re-use project in history. • Developing Portland Oregon's first green specification for architectural projects. • Leading the State of Oregon Department of Energy's revising of the statewide Building Energy Code to aggressively and simply address energy conservation. • Administering rural solar retrofit programs for the State of New Mexico Energy Department. • Developing solar and conservation educational and technical assistance programs throughout New England. • Authoring a wind energy guide for the State of Rhode Island. I've served on Boards of Directors of numerous non-profit and profit entities. Currently, I serve on Boards of: Th Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture, The Halprin Conservancy (Emeritus), the Powerhouse Center On The Bull Run, and the Sauvie Island Conservancy; and I'm a World Resources Institute Sustainable Development Fellow. I recently completed years of service as a Board Member and Policy Committee Chair with Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
