About Jeff Keelan

Jeff Keelan is Professor and past-Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Western Australia (UWA, QEII Medical Centre). He sits on the QEII Trust Board, Academic Board (UWA) and Academic Council (UWA). He was previously Head of Clinical Research Governance at King Edward Memorial Hospital (Perth) and Deputy Director of the Women and Infants Research Foundation (WIRF). He is an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University and a long-time collaborator with The Kids Research Centre. He is a dedicated pregnancy researcher and has made important research contributions in the areas of placental inflammation, preterm labour & birth, the antenatal microbiome, and placental drug transport and metabolism. He has held many other senior leadership roles, including as President of the ANZ Placental Research Association. He is a Fellow of the Society for Reproductive Biology.Jeff is an experienced a graduate student supervisor and mentor and has supervised over 50 research students in his career. He has published over 220 research articles/reviews which have been cited over times; his h-index is 68 (Google Scholar, January 2026).
