About Jeff Markuns

Previously, Executive Director of the sunsetting Primary Health Care Performance Initiative (PHCPI)- a partnership led by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Global Fund, UNICEF, the World Bank Group, and the World Health Organization together with Ariadne Labs and Results for Development (R4D) as technical partners, all focused on promoting and improving primary health care measurement for improvement, especially in low and middle income countries. As a practicing family doctor and faculty at Boston University (BU) for two decades, also lead BU’s Global Health Collaborative, supporting successful long-term vertically and horizontally-integrated development programs to promote primary health care system strengthening throughout southeast Asia and in Lesotho in southern Africa. Founded and direct BU's Health Professions Education Master’s program as well and have deep experience with frontline primary health care and the human resource capacity-building necessary to support its success. In addition to my roles at PHCPI and BU, I am the President for the North America Region of WONCA (the World Organization of Family Doctors).
