Background
About Jeff Tolbert
I’m an active-duty U.S. Army public affairs officer (PAO), Soldier, husband, and father; a strategic communications advisor with a diverse military background and passion for Army service. Before my current role as the public affairs advisor to the Secretary of the U.S. Army, I served as the public affairs advisor to the Under Secretary of the U.S. Army. Prior to this current Pentagon tour, I served in Hawaii with the 25th Infantry Division and U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) public affairs. In those roles I planned, resourced, and executed multiple real-world and training public affairs activities in Hawaii, and across the Indo-Pacific region. Before my assignment in Hawaii, I completed the U.S. Army’s JCS/OSD/ARSTAFF Internship Program in Washington, D.C, which is now called the Bradley Fellowship. As a "JCS Intern," I served nearly two years as a U.S. Army Legislative Liaison in the Office of the Chief Legislative Liaison (OCLL) in the Pentagon and on the Hill. Before my assignment in OCLL, I served as an action officer on the Joint Staff. I’m a 2009 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and have a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Columbus State University, a Master’s in Policy Management from Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, a Master’s in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media, and was the Distinguished Honor Graduate of his Public Affairs and Communication Strategy Qualification Course. I was initially commissioned as an infantry officer from West Point, completed two company commands in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), and served as a two-time platoon leader in the 1st Cavalry Division.
