About Jeff Walker

I was once summed up by a colleague I think fairly accurately when she said "Jeff its not that you think outside the box, I don't think you even know where the box is, and somehow you always have a plan and a backup plan just in case.". I have had a career which bridged working in numerous posts in the NHS as a Biomedical Scientist and working in industry as a Product Specialist and Sales and Marketing executive. In my NHS career I specialised in Haemostasis but worked across many fields in the laboratory.I spent some time as a part time lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University teaching on the Biomedical Sciences courses and at Surrey University on the Toxicology MSc course. I have also lectured at many meetings on subjects as varied as Anticoagulant monitoring, Patient Home testing, Quality Management and Point of Care Testing.I moved into Laboratory Management managing a very diverse portfolio including Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry, Point of Care, Phlebotomy, Laboratory Reception, Anticoagulant Services and Health Care Support Workers.During the SARS CoV 2 pandemic I worked in setting up the Pathology services for the Harrogate Nightingale Hospital alongside evaluating DNA & RNA extraction methodology which was eventually used in the Government "Lab in a Van" program which provided mobile covid PCR testing.
