About Jeff Walter

Counseling psychologist working in private practice and university mental health clinics. My interests include working with students and other adults in community and university settings in roles such as psychotherapist, supervisor, researcher and educator. I have focused my career on working cross-culturally and continually refining a culturally humble approach to this work. I have experience counseling diverse clients in community and university settings on topics ranging from trauma and torture, health psychology, domestic violence, healthy relationships, career counseling, academic skills, anxiety and stress management, depression, grief, and loss.I have a passion for teaching and offering community education. I have taught graduate and undergraduate courses on several topics, including: Multicultural Counseling, Personality Assessment, Research Methods, Statistics and Academic Success Strategies. I have offered community training on several topics as well, including: best practices in using interpreters in mental health settings, cross-cultural mental health, integrating mental health services into primary care settings and working effectively with refugees.I have experience conducting research and offering consultation on research projects. Topics I have conducted research on include: beliefs about psychological help-seeking, police response time to domestic violence calls, domestic violence treatment outcomes, social class and cultural beliefs about psychological help-seeking, and multicultural case conceptualizations for use in practice.
