Background
About Jeff Yau
My enthusiasm for entrepreneurship brought me to where I am today, which is at LMU as a Talent Acquisition Partner. It all started when I was an undergraduate student at LMU. I started going to many sporting events with my father. We went quite often so it became costly. I thought to myself, “How can I still go to these games to spend time with my father without having to spend a lot for these tickets?” It was at that moment that I started purchasing these tickets so I can resell them for a profit on EBAY. This way the profits I made from reselling the tickets will pay for my own tickets to these sporting events. This led to the opening of my small EBAY business. I started going to events that distributed promotional giveaways, such as bobbleheads, and would sell them on EBAY. I expanded my EBAY business to include items that I would purchase on sale from Macy’s. My EBAY business helped me learn sales techniques and skills needed to market my items and finalize the sale transactions. During the same time that I was running my EBAY business, I worked in Human Resources at Western Regional Delivery Services, a transportation company, for twelve years. I got into human resources because it is vital to a company's success. One would need staff to help operate the business. Since my goal is to continue to expand my EBAY business and open up a distribution center, I wanted to continue to be in human resources so I have the experience that is needed to run a company. My experience at Western Regional Delivery Service and my EBAY business helped me realize my deep interest and passion for entrepreneurship, marketing, and human resources. But rather than stay in the transportation industry, I wanted to go into higher education so I can be in an industry that gives back to the community. My experience as an entrepreneur helped me realize my strengths, which includes closing on deals and being a good salesman. This led me to where I am today, which is at LMU as a Talent Acquisition Partner. I help hiring managers recruit and bring in great talent to the University. I love my job because I get to utilize my marketing, entrepreneurship and human resources skills. This job at LMU in Talent Acquisition allows me to do what I love, which is to engage with people and the community. I am also an MBA student at LMU with an emphasis in marketing so that I can learn more marketing skills that I can use at my job to proactively recruit. Helping people find the right job is what I have a passion to do. So if you are interested in working for LMU, feel free to reach out.
