There is nothing better in professional life than that "ha-HA!" moment, whether it be in an academic or industrial setting. When you sit down and analyze that data set from your latest experimental run, and the curve does exactly what your model said it would. When you take an old, broken DC-current drive from the scrap box and a second-hand motor, jimmy-rig them up to a rusty old conveyor belt and, with a little bit of coaxing and care, it runs and tracks as good as new. When your adviser knocks on your office door after the Ph.D. committee deliberates over your doctoral defense, and he's got a big, beaming grin on his face. The way I see it, success cannot ever be measured in dollars or euros or pounds sterling. I believe it is much better viewed as the sum-total of these triumphal moments, together with all the other new products and new ideas that they in turn promise to lead to. At Lehigh University, I was intimately involved in the development of our novel, patented Abbreviated Growth Mode technology. I have also recently finished a successful one year project at National Plastics as the project lead in the development and implementation of a custom Optical Sorting Machine. Regardless of the tools required to do so, be it pen and paper, keyboard and mouse, ratchets and wrenches, or just plain elbow grease and gritty determination, I aim to create as many of those moments of the joy of advancement as possible over my career. At present, I am exploring options to begin work on a new Research and Development project in any science or engineering related field offering the promise of invention and technological progress.
