About Jeffrey Coates

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Oklahoma and a MPH from the department of International Health and Development within Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. I’m a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer stationed in Guyana. I have also worked in Sri Lanka following the 2004 tsunami, assessing the joint food distribution efforts of a World Food Program office and the local government. Following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, I co-founded a nonprofit called the RALLY Foundation. It focused on monitoring and evaluating the relief and recovery effort in the Gulf Coast. I have extensive knowledge and training in disaster preparedness, recovery and mitigation. Most recently, I worked for the Knight Foundation in the Strategic Initiatives Department, supporting programs that focused on systemic issues and creating resilient communities.
