About Jeffrey Diteman

I am a professional translator, editor, and educator. In February 2024 I defended my Ph.D. dissertation on nurture kinship in Latin American and Caribbean literature. A two-time nominee for the Distinguished Teaching Award at University of Massachusetts Amherst, I have created and taught my own syllabi for courses in digital cultures, dystopian fiction, ethics in literature, and international short stories. I have also worked as translation faculty for Smith College and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. The latter institution recognized my literary work with a residency fellowship in January 2024. As a translator, I work from French and Spanish into English. In addition to two translated novels published by Deep Vellum and Restless Books, my translations and writings have been published by Harper's Magazine, Le Monde in English, The Massachusetts Review, Translation Review, and Rowman and Littlefield. I have extensive experience as an editor, working with academic writing, journalism, fiction, and book reviews. I have translated and edited catalogs for museums and galleries, liner notes for music albums, and a wide variety of technical documents. Prior to graduate school, I spent ten years as a full-time medical translator.
